These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the HELGA app, website, learning content, subscriptions, certificates, AI-assisted features, and related services (together, the “Service”).

By downloading, accessing, purchasing, subscribing to, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. What HELGA Is
HELGA is an Icelandic language learning app. The Service may include interactive lessons, vocabulary, grammar explanations, flashcards, audio recordings, progress tracking, error review, saved words, favourite lessons, grammar tables, AI-assisted grammar help, paid subscriptions, and paid completion certificates.
The Service is educational and informational only. HELGA is not an official school, university, government service, immigration service, legal service, employment agency, or accredited language examination provider unless explicitly stated in writing.
2. Educational Content Disclaimer
We make reasonable efforts to provide useful and reviewed Icelandic learning content. However, lessons, translations, grammar explanations, audio, examples, exercises, and AI-assisted answers may contain errors, omissions, outdated wording, simplified explanations, pronunciation variation, or context-dependent interpretations.
You understand that:
- translations may contain errors in Icelandic or in source languages;
- AI-generated answers may be inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading;
- grammar explanations may be simplified for learning purposes;
- pronunciation and usage may vary by speaker, context, formality, or region;
- HELGA does not guarantee fluency, employment, promotion, salary increase, exam success, immigration approval, admission, or acceptance by any employer, school, authority, or third party.
You are responsible for independently verifying important language, employment, legal, immigration, academic, or professional information.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under the age of legal majority in your country, you may use the Service only with permission from a parent or legal guardian.
Purchases, subscriptions, and certificate orders must be made by an adult or with permission from a parent or legal guardian.
4. Account
Some features may require an account. You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for all activity under your account.
You agree to provide accurate information and not to impersonate another person.
If the app supports account creation, you may request account deletion inside the app or by contacting info@learnhelga.is. Deleting your account may permanently delete learning progress, saved words, statistics, certificate eligibility, certificate verification records, and other account data, except where limited retention is required for legal, tax, accounting, fraud prevention, security, dispute resolution, or compliance reasons.
Deleting your HELGA account does not automatically cancel an Apple App Store subscription. You must cancel App Store subscriptions through your Apple account settings.
5. Subscriptions
Some parts of the Service require a paid subscription (“Premium”).
Premium may include access to premium lessons, flashcards, grammar features, AI-assisted language help, progress tools, selected word review, error review, favourite lessons, and other paid functionality shown in the app.
If purchased through the Apple App Store, subscriptions are billed by Apple through Apple In-App Purchase. Apple manages billing, renewal, cancellation, and certain refund requests.
Subscription terms, price, billing period, renewal terms, trial terms if any, and cancellation options are shown before purchase in the Apple purchase flow and/or in the app.
Unless cancelled, subscriptions may renew automatically. Cancellation stops future renewals but does not automatically refund previous payments.
We may change subscription features, pricing, or availability from time to time according to applicable law and Apple’s rules.
6. Certificates
Certificates are paid add-ons and are not included for free unless explicitly stated.
Certificate purchase is available only to users with an active paid HELGA subscription at the time of purchase. Cancelling a subscription after a certificate order has been accepted does not automatically cancel the certificate order, but future certificate purchases may require an active subscription.
Certificates may show user name, course or level completed, issue date, certificate ID, QR code, verification link, and HELGA branding.
Certificates are based on HELGA’s internal course completion records. They are not official government documents, immigration documents, school diplomas, professional licences, accredited language exam certificates, or guaranteed proof of fluency unless explicitly stated in writing.
We do not guarantee that any employer, school, authority, immigration body, or third party will accept or recognise a HELGA certificate.
The Certificate Terms form part of these Terms.
7. AI-Assisted Features
The Service may include AI-assisted features such as grammar explanations or answers to language questions.
AI output may be generated by third-party AI providers. AI answers may be wrong, incomplete, outdated, or inappropriate for your specific context. Do not rely on AI output as professional, legal, immigration, academic, medical, financial, or employment advice.
You must not submit sensitive personal data, confidential information, passwords, passport numbers, national ID numbers, health data, financial details, or private third-party information into AI-assisted features.
We may limit, suspend, or change AI-assisted features to manage cost, abuse, legal compliance, safety, or technical performance.
8. User Content
If you submit text, questions, answers, corrections, feedback, names, certificate information, or other content (“User Content”), you confirm that you have the right to submit it.
You grant us a limited licence to use User Content only as needed to provide, secure, support, improve, and operate the Service, process certificate orders, respond to support requests, prevent abuse, and comply with law.
You must not submit content that is illegal, abusive, defamatory, discriminatory, infringing, harmful, misleading, or violates another person’s privacy.
9. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- copy, scrape, resell, redistribute, or mass-download HELGA lessons, audio, vocabulary, grammar tables, certificates, QR records, or app content;
- reverse engineer, modify, hack, overload, or interfere with the Service;
- share paid access with others;
- use automation, bots, scripts, fake accounts, or manipulation;
- generate fraudulent certificate records;
- submit false certificate names or completion claims;
- misuse QR codes, coupons, rewards, or partner offers;
- violate applicable law or third-party rights.
We may suspend or terminate access if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms.
10. Intellectual Property
The Service, app design, lessons, text, grammar explanations, structure, animations, audio recordings, characters, graphics, certificates, logos, software, databases, word lists, and other materials are owned by us or our licensors.
You receive a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your own learning purposes.
You may not copy, sell, publish, distribute, train AI models on, or create competing datasets or products from HELGA content without written permission.
11. Third-Party Services
The Service may rely on third-party services, including Apple, hosting providers, analytics providers, crash reporting tools, AI providers, email providers, payment processors, delivery providers, and support tools.
We are not responsible for third-party services outside our reasonable control. Your use of Apple App Store purchases is also subject to Apple’s applicable terms.
12. Partner Rewards and Coupons
If HELGA offers partner rewards, restaurant coupons, discounts, QR rewards, or promotions, they may be subject to additional terms, expiry dates, location limits, stock availability, one-use limits, partner participation, and fraud prevention rules.
Partner rewards have no cash value unless explicitly stated. Partners may refuse rewards if expired, already redeemed, fraudulent, technically invalid, or not compliant with reward terms.
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue partner rewards at any time.
13. Availability and Changes
We may update, change, suspend, or discontinue parts of the Service. We may correct errors, update content, remove lessons, change features, or modify AI availability.
We try to keep the Service available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. Outages, bugs, maintenance, Apple issues, internet problems, device issues, hosting failures, or third-party disruptions may occur.
14. Consumer Rights
Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts, or limits any mandatory consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded.
Where legally permitted, digital content and services may begin immediately after purchase, and by using paid digital content immediately you may lose certain withdrawal rights, depending on applicable law and the purchase channel.
Personalised certificate products may have limited cancellation rights once production, personalisation, PDF generation, printing, preparation, or dispatch has started, except where mandatory law provides otherwise.
15. Refunds
Refunds are governed by the Refund Policy and, where purchases are made through the Apple App Store, by Apple’s refund process and applicable Apple terms.
16. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. You may cancel your subscription through Apple account settings if purchased through the App Store.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, misuse certificates or QR verification, attempt fraud, chargeback abuse, scraping, hacking, unauthorised redistribution, or if required by law or platform rules.
17. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for:
- language mistakes, translation errors, pronunciation variations, or simplified grammar explanations;
- AI-generated errors or omissions;
- your reliance on the Service for employment, immigration, legal, academic, or professional decisions;
- rejection of a certificate by an employer, school, authority, or third party;
- lost progress caused by account deletion, device issues, user error, or technical failure outside our reasonable control;
- indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or loss-of-profit damages;
- third-party service failures, Apple billing issues, internet outages, postal delays, or delivery provider failures outside our reasonable control.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for intentional misconduct, fraud, or mandatory consumer rights.
18. Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to compensate us for losses, claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses arising from your misuse of the Service, breach of these Terms, fraudulent certificate use, infringement of third-party rights, or unlawful conduct.
This does not apply where prohibited by consumer protection law.
19. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The latest version will be available in the app or on our website. If changes are material, we may notify you through the app, website, or email where appropriate.
Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms, unless applicable law requires a different process.
20. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Iceland, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protection rights you may have in your country of residence.
